
Mike Nichols

Mike has been working in the music industry for many years as a professional bassist. Performing and recording with many well known artists, and playing with orchestras and west end shows. Mike has always been a creative musician, and studied composition with Ian Carr and Scott Stroman on the jazz course at the Guildhall School of music and Drama. After graduating college Mike’s career as bassist took off. This didn’t leave much time for composing but he got involved in creative projects whenever possible, including writing and producing the Electronica Album Planet Zebidee – a concept album based on exploration of an alien planet.
Being a versatile bassist with a love for all kinds of music Mike has worked in a wide range of musical styles including rock, pop, jazz, country, Americana, musical theatre and orchestral music. In addition to the vast network of professional musicians Mike has developed, he has gained the experience to produce a wide range of music with stylistic authenticity. Mike is very comfortable working with live ensembles up to and including full orchestra.
In recent years Mike has been working as a musical director. He is currently the MD for Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp. He is responsible for live production, fixing the band and directing rehearsals and live shows. The band have played most major festivals in the UK including Glastonbury and the Isle of Wight.
Mike is a regular bassist for the Novello orchestra and has played on live performances in all the major UK concert halls and arenas, of movies including Star Wars (A New Hope), Into The Spiderverse, Beauty and the Bast, La La Land, The Italian Job, The Jungle Book etc etc
Mike is now focussing on developing his work as a composer. There have been some great developments in media composition with fantastic work happening in games, movies and TV. Mike is excited about working in this area of the industry and keen to work with talented directors and designers.
